Brussels to wait until November before kicking off preparations for no-deal Brexit
The EU will wait until November before significantly ramping up preparations for a possible collapse of Brexit talks, diplomats have told Reuters.
Envoys of the remaining 27 countries in the bloc after Brexit have discussed stepping up contingency planning in the event of a no-deal scenario and how to manage that process.
A senior EU diplomat told Reuters: “We will wait for if and when the negotiations with Britain officially fail to kickstart more open work among the 27 on preparing for a no-deal.
“We’ve given ourselves until November.”
The 27 EU leaders have agreed to meet on November 17-18 to sign off any Brexit deal the Brussels strikes with Britain.
The diplomat warned: “There are areas where we need to act to have something in place on March 30th no matter what.”
